Ok not really Man of the Year… but I was just awarded the DcDesign House Male Artist of the Year award at the 2015 MusicNL Awards for my album Rogue Doubt! I really wasn’t expecting to actually win anything on account of so many awesome folks also being nominated. But there it is. Somebody out there likes me.

Thanks to DcDesign House and MusicNL for the award. This is such a personal album for me. So it is especially nice to be recognized for it…and to know people like it!

Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making the record, voting for the record or enjoying the record.

Hugs and Kisses.

Rogue Doubt nominated for MusicNL awards!!!

music-nl-2012

That’s right kids! I’m excited to announce that my album Rogue Doubt has ben nominated for 4 MusicNL (or Music Newfoundland and Labrador) Awards.

Male artist of the year, SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, Music Video of the Year (for Firing Line, directed by Alona Penton-Power) and Album of the Year!!!

The awards are no longer all given out at one gala event so there will be awards given out at different MusicNL events between October 14th and 18th. I will be performing a showcase on Thursday October 15th at the Rockhouse for the MusicNL Nickel Music Video night!

Congratulations to all of the nominees. Getting to write our own tunes and have people enjoy them is pretty much what it is all about. We’re all winners in my book!

Thursday Night: Songwriter’s Series at the Ship

2015 Sept 3 The Ship Songwriter's series

Well it pretty much says it all in the title. I’ll be playing in a songwriter’s circle (or at least one round of it I suppose) Thursday September 3rd at the Ship in St. John’s. I’ll be sharing the stage with a pretty stellar line-up featuring:

Jerry Stamp
Kellie Loder
Port Of Call
Chad Murphy
Carolann Fowler
Adam Daly
Heather Nolan of Lady Brett Ashley

Tix are $10 and the show starts at 9 so you can still be bright eyed and bushy tailed for work the next day. But what a great way to start off your weekend!

A Paperboy’s Blues Night!

My former high school theatre teacher, Kevin Lewis, was a big inspiration to me and helped me realize that shy weird dudes like me could become performers. Kevin just released his memoirs entitled a Paperboy’s Story. He is in the process of adapting it into a stage production. Monday August 17th at the Masonic Temple in St. John’s we’ll be putting off a fun informal event as a fundraiser for that endeavour. I’ll be singing a few tunes alongside the Ennis Sisters, Damhnait Doyle, Erin Best, John Sheehan and more. Mark Critch will be there too so I assume I’ll get a mini-roasting of sorts.

Roots, Rants & Roars Festival in Elliston!

Screen Shot 2015-08-14 at 11.45.58 AM

I’ve ben invited to perform as part of the much-adored Roots, Rants and Roars food festival in Elliston NL in September. On Saturday September 18th I’ll be providing some musical accompaniment at a stop along the food hike and later that evening I will be performing a set during the dinner event. But I won’t be the only artist performing. There will be sets by the Fortunate Ones, Matthew Byrne, Jim Payne & Fergus O’Byrne, Rum Ragged, Knotty Pine and more. It will truly be a feast for the ears, eyes and stomach…no really there will be a feast. Like, an actual feast!

RD Remixes: All The Things I Wanted (by Ian Foster)

12-inch-gatefold

Today is the 6 month anniversary of the release of Rogue Doubt. So for fun I asked friends to remix some RD tunes. My only wish was that they had to take the song in a different direction. I’ll be releasing some remixes over the next few days. Today’s remix is Ian Foster’s remix of Firing Line, which he calls All The Things I Wanted. Check it out here:
